Patrick Henderson | C – Georgia United – Atlanta, GA Q) Give us a little info on your flag football experience, how long you’ve been playing, teams you play for, what positions you play, etc. I started playing flag back in 03 with 1st and Goal 7man team and after a few years of 7man I migrated over to the 8man game. Teams that I was in charge of Nu Nation and now GU. Which format do you enjoy the most and why? The format I enjoy the most in flag is 8man. What’s not to enjoy about the fastest growing division in the sport. What is it about flag football that you enjoy the most and keeps you coming back to play year after year? Some would say flag life is like a soap opera. That statement is so true to form, however it is intoxicating to the point where you can’t get enough. From the friends and associates that I have met in this sport from all across the county and even from an international standpoint, it is immeasurable. I would not trade it for the world. I say this phrase to this day, “The day you stop playing, is the day your start aging.” What are you most excited about in regards to Battle Orlando? I am looking forward to bringing the two coast together. Teams are expected to attend from all over. Any tips or advice for new players out there, in regards to flag football techniques, running a team or travelling to tournaments? People think that it is easy to run a team. Trust and believe that it is not as easy as one would think. Diere “Fresh” Franklin | Quarterback – Looney Tunes – Dallas, TX “Fresh” off a recent 8man screen state championship, and with multiple other local and national championships under his belt, here’s is a little insight and advice from Diere “Fresh” Franklin on his years playing the sport and what he’s looking forward to! Q) Give us a little info on your flag football experience, how long you’ve been playing, teams you play for, what positions you play, etc. Wow I’ve been playing flag football since I was 18 yrs old. I started out just playing in the air it out 4 on 4 tournaments every year until that tournament died out. I’ve played in all types of formats since then lol… 9man contact for 12 years “Shotyme” 8man screen “Havoc” 4man screen “Looney Tunes” 5man screen and contact 6man screen 7man screen 8man Coed. “HOF” Which format do you enjoy the most and why? My favorite format I would have to say is 4man because it’s the game that challenges me the most although I’m really liking 8man these days. What is it about flag football that you enjoy the most and keeps you coming back to play year after year? The thing I enjoy most about flag football is the fellowship man…I’ve made so many friends in this sport that it’s unreal so it’s like a family away from family, even a the guys from other states we all keep in touch now that we’ve gotten to know each other. So for me that’s what keeps me coming back year after year, the competitor in me to be the absolute best ever and the friendships I have with teammates and competitors. What are you most excited about in regards to Battle Orlando? I think “Battle of Orlando” will be exciting because you guys care about the product!!!! The elite divisions are over looked most of the time in the huge tournaments with multiple divisions and I believe you guys put the time and energy in making a good product for the guys that have pushed the sport for all these years man. I think we deserve something like this and I’m very thankful for it! Any tips or advice for new players out there, in regards to flag football techniques, running a team or travelling to tournaments? My advice to new players is to ALWAYS RESPECT THE GAME….what I mean is respect the great players before you. Ask questions, watch games, watch leadership, soak up as much info as possible and apply it all to your own game. Don’t be so cocky that you don’t learn as much as you should because that’s the way I’ve been able to be considered the best by some of my peers! And to my QB’s understand that criticism will only make you better, it’s about how you deal with it because you will have positive things said about you win you win and negative things when you lose but it comes with the position and you have to be level headed enough to deal with any and every kind of criticism to make it in this sport as a QB! Kasey Denesevich | Safety – All TDs – Lauderhill, FL Q) Give us a little info on your flag football experience, how long you’ve been playing, teams you play for, what positions you play, etc. I’ve been playing for give or take 10 years, I play for my original team All TDs when we can if not I’ve been playing with Goose Crew and WND in 4 man and Apocalpyse in 7 man and team USA in 5 man IFAF in the FFWC. I play WR and Safety in 4 man and QB and safety in 7 man. Which format do you enjoy the most and why? I enjoy playing 4 man the best because it’s fast paced and you can’t hide a weak link everyone has to be able to play ball. What is it about flag football that you enjoy the most and keeps you coming back to play year after year? Being able to compete against the best at the highest level brings out the competitive nature to the fullest in me. That always keeps me coming back! What are you most excited about in regards to Battle Orlando? I’m most excited to see the sport trying to grow again at a national level. Its booming locally in south Florida but as of the past 5 years or so national events and places to play and travel have diminished. Any tips or advice for new players out there, in regards to flag football techniques, running a team or travelling to tournaments? My advice for teams and players for traveling and trying to get better is to PLAY in everything you can, it only benefits you in the long run. I’ve seen way to many teams coming up play in one top gun tourney and get beat by the best and that’s it never to be seen and heard from again. Truth be told it takes time and wisdom to really get to where you want to go it doesn’t happen overnight! USFTL Nationals is only a few weeks away & with that comes planning for the big event! Just announced, the captains meeting for USFTL Nationals this year will be held at Dicks Sporting Goods in Lakeland, Florida, located at 919 Lakeland Park Center Drive #300, Lakeland Florida 33809. The captains meeting will happen on Thursday January 12th from 6pm to 10pm. Teams MUST have atleast 1 representative present to get your initial game time for Friday January 13th. Players will also receive 20% off of their entire purchase not only at the captains meeting, but for the entire weekend! USFTL Nationals is 1 month away! Some exciting news for the Flag Football world! The USFTL has a new exciting format called Red Zone Flag Football. Here are the details hot off the press DIRECTLY from USFTL Founder & CEO Michael Cihon. The Red Zone division will be offered for both Youth & Adults, Men & Women. There is only one division for Red Zone. For example if you play 8Man Contact A, B, C, or D, for Red Zone you will all compete in one division. This ring true across the board for all formats.
